Putting on my catching gear to frame or block 50 mph pitches during a softball game is where you can find me all year round. My dad is my biggest fan who drives me from Missouri to Oklahoma and all across Texas and Louisiana just to play select fast pitch softball.

Softball is a game I love to play; yet it teaches me one of life’s greatest lessons. You can reach any goal through hard work! For instance, I have been a catcher for a short while and have received three tournament MVP awards, one of which was in the 10U USSSA World Series held in Branson, Missouri.

Softball is full of ups and downs just like life.

You have to learn to shake things off and keep going. If I make a bad play, “its ok, I’ll make up for it next time.” I’ve learned through softball that being a quitter is not an option and this spills over into my life. Not only has softball taught me some of life’s little lessons but it’s helped me become a better student. I am a straight A student and in the Gifted and Talented program. As a catcher, I am a more confident and vocal leader. I am involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, and Christ on Campus which is my favorite. I led a prayer with over 75 students circling the American flag on See You at the Pole Day. Reading and writing are my favorite subjects and I was named Yamboree County Fair Poetry Winner where I competed against students from 5 school districts. In 2009, I won 1st place in UIL Ready Writing and this year I earned 2nd place competing with other East Texas schools. Through my love of reading, I have a greater knowledge and an imagination which seems to make writing come easier to me. Writing a children’s book is one of my many dreams.

Nadia Taylor inspires me the most, the catcher for the University of Texas, because she had to work hard for everything she has earned. My goal for the future is to get a college academic or sport scholarship to attend the University of Texas and hard work is the only way to get there.

While I’m waiting on that dream to come true, what better way to learn about life and become an honorable young woman than to play in the dirt! When I’m not diving for foul balls, writing a story, or have my nose in a book, you can find me doing art. In my spare time, I like to ride bikes with my family or find a place to swim.
