Leadership Portraits - What Colors Symbolize You?

The girls attending this week's L.A.D.D.E.R.S. (Leadership Attributes to Develop Diplomacy, Ethics, Respect & Self-Esteem) session were asked to create a portrait of themselves as a leader. The catch? They could only use 5 colors, choosing from yellow (honor & loyalty), silver (faith & purity), red (bravery), black (sorrow), green (youth & hope), purple (royalty), orange (strength & endurance) and maroon (sacrifice). The girls were then asked to elaborate on their drawings. Here's what one student had to say:

For my portrait, I chose the colors: silver, red, orange, purple, and green. The color silver stood for faith and purity. As a leader, your faith in decisions you make will need to be strong. Red means bravery and courage. Many leaders have to complete risky tasks. Your courage will help you get through anything. Orange is used for strength and endurance. There will be hard times during your time of leadership, and being strong will help you get through those times.

My two other colors are also needed to be a good leader. Green is youth and hope. If things begin to go downhill, as a leader, you have to have hope that it will get better. Purple stands for high rank and royalty. During your time of leading, you will be high-ranked and well-respected. You will usually be at the top of your community. You have earned this position, because you have worked hard as a leader.

Did we mention these campers are ages 12-14?
