- In 2006, only 23 percent of solo exhibitions in NYC art galleries were by women artists
- Many museums' collections consist of only 5%-10% works by women artists.
- Only 30% of Art Review's Power 100 are women in the arts.
- There are 80 percent female students at the School of Visual Arts. But in the real world, there are 70 to 80 percent male artists in galleries and museums.
With this in mind, we're announcing several upcoming programs that focus on the contributions of women artists:
- Art League Education Series: developed to familiarize youth and families with the work of female artists featured within the Museum's permanent Breakthrough Artists exhibit.
The next workshop will be held on February 28th at 1 PM and will be led by artist Kim Ragsdale, who will discuss a typical day in the life of a female artist. Gallery tour of Ragsdale's exhibition "Let There Be Light" to follow at Galleria Pierra.
